Frequently asked questions

The questions Happy Valley and Clackamas parents ask us most.

How often should my child train?
Most students attend two classes each week. We'll help you pick times that fit around school and sports.
Will my child become a bully?
The opposite. Our students become more confident about standing up to bullies, and more humble and kind toward others through their martial arts lessons.
Do parents need to stay?
We don't require parents to stay during classes. That said, parents who get involved build a solid connection — they see their child grow in confidence and skill through each belt rank. Strong family units matter to us and to our Happy Valley and Clackamas community.
What do we need to bring to the first lesson?
Comfortable clothes you can move in and a water bottle. Our classes are a great workout and a lot of fun — most students are grinning from ear to ear by the end.
My child has ADHD — will martial arts help?
Yes. Martial arts is an individual sport done in a group environment, so students improve focus, self-control, discipline and social skills. The best part: they just think they're having fun.
Are parents allowed to watch?
Absolutely — we love parents getting involved, and so do their kids. You can also join one of our adult classes so you have something in common. Or drop them off and grab a coffee; they'll greet you with a huge smile.
My child isn't athletic — will they feel left out?
Not at all. Martial arts is the perfect activity for kids who aren't drawn to team sports. The journey from white belt to black belt looks different for everyone, but every student improves coordination, balance, motor skills, focus and discipline — and makes great friends.
My child is addicted to computer games. Is this suitable?
This may be the best activity for kids who sit a lot. Kicking and punching pads is fantastic stress relief, and parents often tell us they see a happier, more social child develop right in front of them.
